I decided then that if anyone ever asked me to do it again, I'd quote $25K. I can tell you that I did a conversion of GM data to SalesForce once, about 8 years ago. I suppose if I were on the SQL based version of Goldmine it may have been easier. If you are starting fresh, it is fine, but it has been nothing short of a nightmare to transfer nearly 6 years of Goldmine data into salesforce. I can tell you right off that the set-up is a pain. I'd be most interested in your reactions and comparisons. I hope you might stop in a few more times after you've accustomed yourself to SalesForce. Sorry to learn of your imminent departure. I figured that's what you meant just wanted to clarify. I don't know what language Goldbox is written in but I wonder if Dave has tried recompiling the installation package on a 64-bit machine? This may bypass the installation issues.Īlas, these are my final days with the forum. I'm sure the later versions of Goldbox will perform similarly.

You may be giving Dave a potential solution, though.I hope.Ĭonsulting with GoldBox and GoldMine since 1997.įor the poster who did not think that he could install a 32-bit program on a 64-bit machine, I wanted to let him know that he can. Perhaps I'm missing it, but GoldBox 5 is not a match for GoldMine 8.x. Once I unziped it to my Goldbox directory, I clicked on GX5.exe, and goldbox started the set-up and install process as expected. I was not able do it from the demo insall package but Dave provides a. I am running 64-bit Vista Ultimate and I was able to get Goldbox to run. Last edited by nc_miami on Wed 3:08 pm edited 1 time in total I have a lot of 32-bit programs running on my 64-bit machine but I'm not having any luck whatsoever installing my version of Goldbox, which I desperately need!!!! I get the "run" pop-up and then the next is an error message. I've even tried installing it using their "Compatability" wizard without success. However, with all of that said, I can't get goldbox to install on my 64-bit vista either. It auto detects it and installs them in "Program Files (x86)" and even has a separate 32-bit control panel. Vista Ultimate 64-bit will run and install 32-bit programs. Are you sure the 64-bit machine can ONLY run 64-bit programs?

It just seems a tremendous oversight that a 64-bit PC will not run 32-bit programs. Or to work with "logmein"or PC anywhere from the 32 bits towards the 64 bitsĪt this time, I have no answer.

Then backup, transfer and restore on the 64 bits again ?Ĭomputers are in a workgroup, network, wireless.

Wouldn't let me finish describing my issue(s) before jumping in and unloading a bunch of mumbo-jumbo at me that usually ended with "must be a problem on your end.ContactReview :: View topic - Goldbox on 64 bits ?Ī GoldMine Discussion and Support Community The agent I dealt with (or who dealt with me) was terribly condescending. LET ME ADD - that one big reason I haven't sought help from customer service is how unpleasant my first experiences were trying to go that route. With Deja, it's like having a bad internet connection even when it's only talking to my hard drive! "Dum-de-dum-de-dum." And then when it's done thinking, if I've changed a category, for instance, it's jumped to the new category - which then necessitates my navigating back to where I was, and again, LLLLAAAAGGGGG. and the changes would take place instantly. It is SO SLOW!!! On my Palm desktop, I could modify tasks, memos, etc. Oh, where do I start? I guess if I could pick one thing, it would be how cumbersome the desktop is to use. But I wish I had time to shop for and switch to something more efficient and easy to learn. It retains most of the data.so that's good. User-unfriendly as it is, it's what I committed to as a replacement for my old Palm PDA.
